Vi Subtitle is based on WebGPU and OpenAI Whisper 100% on-device
The latency of real-time transcription is influenced by the performance of your device.
Recommended: Windows 16GB RAM NVIDIA GPU. Mac with Apple silicon

Step 1: Install the Chrome extension

Click here (opens in a new tab) to Download and Install extension. (Chrome 126 and above)


Vi Subtitle is based on WebGPU and OpenAI Whisper 100% on-device, it will load whisper model for first start

Step 2: Open extension Live Caption

Open the website or videos, you want show real-time subtitles

Turn on extension's Live Caption, it will show a subtitle overlay in the browser

Play or watch your video, it will show real-time subtitles on the overlay


Step 3: Select original language or Translate language PREMIUM

Premium Feature: Real-time translation, bilingual display, and subtitle export require a Premium plan. Start your 7-day free trial →

Select original Language

Turn on extension's Translate and select a language you need

If the translate language is not available

  1. Go to chrome://flags/#translation-api
  2. Select Enabled without language pack limit
  3. Click Relaunch or restart Chrome.

Step 4: Bilingual Mode PREMIUM

Enable Bilingual Mode to display the original audio caption and the translated text simultaneously on screen — ideal for language learners who want to follow along in both languages at once.

Step 5: Export subtitles & Change style PREMIUM

Change subtitle font, size, and colors to match your preference.

Export your subtitle session as:

  • .txt — plain text transcript
  • .srt — time-coded format for video players and editors (Premium)
  • .vtt — WebVTT format for web-based video (Premium)
